Using abstraction, color, & simplicity, I am inspired to create what I feel, the hidden secrets of my unconscious, & the images I receive from my dreams.
I create to make meaning of life & to bring a depth of understanding to my experiences. I create to relate with myself & the collective.
My approach is confrontive yet playful, melancholy soaked in hope, bitter & sweet - just like life itself.
PIECES & POEMS
Even an examined life is full of mystery. Sara Whitehead’s newest series, “Pieces & Poems,”
invites viewers to reconnect with the dissociated parts of themselves. As visitors move through
the exhibition, they are welcomed by familiar themes of togetherness and longing while they are
asked to reconcile the opposing themes of hypocrisy and pain. Her work embodies this theme of
reconciling opposites by intertwining painting and poetry, distilling her complex and ephemeral
subjects into simple forms and phrases. Her decades of experience as a psychotherapist has
shown her that this process of transformation, whether done consciously or unconsciously, has
a reparative effect to the viewer personally and a unifying effect to the collective towards a
sense of wholeness.
